Leading with purpose: It’s a challenge to do effectively during the best of times – and for those representing and working in local government and education, these are far from the best of times. The COVID-19 pandemic and recent political and cultural conflicts have created new demands on systems and processes that already were under a microscope; furthermore, relief has been intermittent, and burnout among participants is real.
With this in mind, we asked community leaders about their “Why” – that is, what keeps them going despite all these external factors. When leaders lift their vision beyond the day-to-day work and look to fulfill a bigger purpose, they build a basis for enacting real change.
